Leroy Wiseman
Psychotherapist

Location: Mona Vale Telehealth - Video Consultation

Leroy is a psychotherapist with a passion and specialty for supporting young people. He primarily works with children, adolescents, and adults between the ages of 10 and 35.

He has significant experience supporting people with a wide range of emotional, relational, and developmental challenges. These include mood and emotional difficulties such as anxiety, depression, anger, and difficulties with emotional and nervous system regulation; experiences of grief, loss, and suicidal ideation; challenges in relationships, communication, and family dynamics; identity development, life transitions, and existential concerns; men’s mental health; and the lasting impacts of childhood trauma and attachment wounds.

Leroy emphasises co-creating a warm, authentic, and psychologically safe therapeutic relationship as the foundation for meaningful change. His approach is tailored to the unique needs, goals, and unfolding process of each client.

He offers integrative humanistic and experiential psychotherapy that is present-centred, relational, trauma-informed, non-pathologising, and grounded in evidence-based practice.

Leroy’s work draws on a range of modalities, including Rogerian Person-Centred Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Mindfulness-Based approaches, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Gestalt Therapy, Existential Psychotherapy, Child-Centred Play Therapy, and Process-Oriented Group Psychotherapy.

Leroy holds a Master of Psychotherapy and Counselling and is a certified practising member of the Psychotherapy & Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). He also holds a Bachelor of Social Science in Philosophy.

Leroy began his career in youth suicide prevention, launching the peer support program Open Up in 2017 alongside the Northern Beaches-based charity One Eighty Inc. His commitment to working with young people was catalysed by the tragic suicides of two young friends, aged just 20 and 22.

Over five years, across five locations in Sydney and online, the Open Up program delivered over 430 facilitated group sessions – providing an anonymous, judgement-free space for more than 3400 young people to connect and find support in each other.

Leroy volunteered as program co-creator, principal facilitator, and team leader for three years, later stepping into other leadership, training, and supervisory roles. It was in this work that he discovered his passion and calling for facilitating healing interpersonal experiences.

In addition to his therapeutic work, Leroy brings a diverse background as a facilitator and educator across the not-for-profit and private sectors. He has developed and delivered programs and training on topics including suicide prevention, interpersonal communication, relational intimacy, healthy relationships, men’s mental health, peer support, group facilitation, meditation and mindfulness.

Finally, drawing on a decade of personal practice, Leroy enjoys sharing the psychological freedom offered by mindfulness practice. He teaches in a down-to-earth, experiential way and has experience facilitating eight-week mindfulness courses for groups and one-on-one mentoring.
