Leroy Wiseman
Psychotherapist

Location: Mona Vale Telehealth - Video Consultation

Leroy is a psychotherapist with a genuine passion for supporting young people. He works primarily with children, adolescents, and adults aged between 12-30.

He has extensive experience supporting people experiencing depression; anxiety; family & relationship issues; communication & interpersonal challenges; loneliness & social isolation; suicidal ideation; life transitions & adjustments; behaviour & anger issues; childhood trauma; and attachment wounds.

Leroy emphasises co-creating a warm, authentic, and psychologically safe therapeutic relationship as a foundation for positive change.

He offers integrative humanistic and experiential psychotherapy, which is present-centred, relational, non-pathologising, trauma-informed, and evidence-based.

Leroy’s training draws on person-centred, gestalt, mindfulness-based, emotion-focused, sensorimotor, internal family systems, existential, play, and group therapy.

Leroy started his career in 2017, after launching the suicide prevention peer support program ‘Open Up’ alongside Northern Beaches-based charity One Eighty Inc.

He became deeply committed to supporting young people in his community, after the tragic suicides of two young friends aged 20 and 22. He recognised that young people were simultaneously caught in both a mental ill-health epidemic, and a conspiracy of silence around it.

Over 6 years, across five locations in Sydney and online, and 430+ mental health support sessions – the Open Up program provided an anonymous, judgement-free space for 3400+ young people to connect, and find support in each other.

Leroy volunteered for 3.5 years as program co-creator, principal facilitator and team leader, later holding leadership, supervisory, and training roles. There, he discovered his passion and calling for facilitating healing interpersonal experiences.

He is now a certified practising member of the Psychotherapy & Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), having completed a Master of Psychotherapy and Counselling. Leroy also holds a Bachelor of Social Science in Philosophy, having a particular interest in ethics and philosophy of mind.

Leroy welcomes opportunities to share the psychological freedom afforded by mindfulness practice, having personally benefitted from a decade of practice experience. He teaches from direct experience in a down-to-earth, practical way, and has experience teaching mindfulness through 8-week courses and 1:1 mentoring.
