Susan Brooks

Susan is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with a Post Graduate Diploma in Relationship Counselling. She takes a person-centred approach which values the uniqueness of each person, their relationships, and circumstances. 

Susan enjoys working with young adults and adults and has broad experience in a range of issues including anxiety, depression, work related stress, communication and conflict management skills. 

She has a special interest in bereavement with extensive experience working with loss and grief. Whether grappling with the loss of a loved one, a significant life change or illness, or facing anticipatory grief, Susan is dedicated to helping people address the multifaceted impacts of loss on their emotional wellbeing and relationships. She provides a non-judgemental space for people to talk about what has happened and offers strategies to help cope with the day to day challenges that accompany loss and grief. 

 

Susan offers compassionate support and evidenced-based interventions which she tailors to meet each individuals needs and preferences. These include Narrative Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Her warmth and relational style are complemented by her strengths based approach.

Susan has experience working in a range of settings including NSW Dept Health, Palliative Care, Relationships Australia, Carers Gateway, CatholicCare and Pastoral Care settings both in Australia and the UK. She has worked for over 10 years in Relationship Education using FOCCUS and Prepare/Enrich programmes with couples.
